The name Goston now comes from ‘ghost town’ rather than the original ‘goose town’ from when it was originally a small farming community. Goston is now abandoned. It is situated in the center of a valley now known as the Forest of Thieves. The town is little more than a hamlet of three farmhouses and a few outbuildings, storage barns and two smaller houses. There is a village green and a large duck pond or more particularly a goose pond and enclosure.
There is a small chapel building on a nearby hilltop overlooking the valley. The road through Goston leads past the Coachman Inn crossroads to the West and toward Silverton to the East. A small bridge crosses a stream that becomes marshland and a small woodland Goston Vale Woods in which is situated the Tower Ruin before eventually joining the Whitewater River.
